Take 47 assorted dentists, technicians, Straumann employees and others working across the dental industry, persuade them to ride from the Mediterranean coast across the Pyrenees (a mere 450 miles or so) to San Sebastian in five days and raise £40,000 for Bridge2Aid – no problem there then!

Between 15th and 19th September that’s exactly what happened as team #DentistsInLycra participated in the third intercontinental Straumann Charity Bike Ride along a route famed for its mountainous terrain, in aid of a charity that does vital work for communities in Tanzania to bring relief from dental pain. With the total amount raised at £45,103.58 the riders achieved what they set out to do.

From team members completely new to long distance cycling, to hardened, seasoned professionals, the bike ride has been an amazing success. Not afraid to take part in the ride himself, Mark Topley, CEO of Bridge2Aid said, “The money raised from events such as this are crucial for us in order to train more people in emergency dentistry and support more of our work on the ground in Tanzania”.

The £40,000 target was the most ambitious set so far, but thanks to the incredible efforts of the Straumann team, and the generosity and support of friends, family, work colleagues, and bike ride sponsors, this target has been smashed, with £45,000 already raised and potentially still more to come.

Steve Booth, Managing Director of Straumann UK, visited Tanzania earlier this year to see first-hand the hard work and relief offered by Bridge2Aid. He congratulated the riders’ huge achievement by saying, “I feel incredibly proud and would like to thank everyone who has helped us to raise so much money for such an important cause.”

A special thank you goes out to the generous sponsors of the Straumann Bike Ride 2016; Createch Medical, FMC, Generation UCAN, Milkshake Marketing, NSK UK, Ogilvie Fleet, Stream and The Dentistry Show.

It’s still not too late to donate – donations can be made online via www.justgiving.com/teams/Straumann2016. Thank you!
