During September, leading dental implant provider Straumann invited a group of dental practitioners and technicians to join them for a one-day visit of the dental engineering company Createch Medical.

The facilities are based in Mendaro, a town located in the province of Gipuzkoa in the Basque region in northern Spain.

Amongst those attending included dental technicians Roy Rowe and Colin Sykes, and dental practitioners Jonathon Schofield, Tim Harris, Jonny Lynd, Elliott Ballantyne, Colin McGuirk and Chong Lim.

Led by Createch Sales & Internationalisation Director, Xabier Egurbide and manager Antxoka Urzainki, the visitors started the day with an introductory presentation into the origins of the company and a brief overview about the unique blend of engineers and dental technicians that makes up their workforce. Having a parent company that manufacturers the vital components for aircraft engines and landing gear, they emphasised that the internal team at Createch work within exacting methods and minimal tolerances.

Taken on a tour of the main manufacturing plant where the team process all manner of highly precise engineering parts and components, attendees were then introduced to the dental team in the Createch factory and shown the step-by-step process to fully experience the high-quality manufacturing of CADCAM frameworks.

The tour of the Createch factory ran through all the stages from the moment they receive a file from a technician, through the numerous checks they make, to the finished packaged product ready for delivery. This included being shown first-hand what minor difficulties are experienced when there is a situation when a clinician provides a lack of planning of individual implant cases.

About Createch
With their origins in the aeronautic industry and now a pioneer in the field of implant-borne prosthetics, Createch Medical was founded in 2006 and specialises in the research, development and manufacture of high quality, innovative, CADCAM bridges and bars. With a wide range of structure solutions for prostheses, the results of their developments are unique CADCAM structures that make them leaders in the sector.createch medical

Straumann partnered with Createch Medical (Spain) in 2013, and in doing so has shared information relating to the dimension requirements for frameworks and bars to meet the exacting standards of the Straumann® Dental Implant System.

This collaboration of data between both companies now enables Createch to offer original Straumann components to ensure patients receive the highest possible level of care and that the Straumann patient guarantee remains valid for each case. Manufacturing high-resistance, personalised structures for every patient using materials certified by UNE-EN ISO regulations, the designs include simulations using finite element analysis (FEA) calculations to provide maximum safety and reliability of the prostheses.

Using the service is simple; technicians send their plaster models to Createch in the special transportation box provided by Straumann, and Createch scan and design the bridge to your specifications. The design is sent for comments, and is only milled once approved.

Extreme Precision
As a remote service, it is available to any dental laboratory, and the goal is for Createch to share with customers its high level of knowledge and engineering expertise and to deliver a wide range of dental frameworks that benefit from an original Straumann connection.Createch Milling

The Createch milling facility delivers ultra-precise products, produced in medical-grade titanium or cobalt-chrome, to the strictest standards using five-axis high precision milling machines. Createch also have a team of highly skilled lab technicians on hand to provide advice and training to guarantee the ultimate result is achieved.

Clinican Tim Harris was highly impressed with what he saw and had this to say about his visit, “This has been a rare opportunity to take time out of practice to spend time with other technicians and like-minded clinicians.

“Having our technician with us on the trip allowed us the opportunity to see as a team how best to get the most from this fantastic facility. The precision of the scanning, the variation in the design options and the tolerance to which they work is very reassuring for our patients and us alike. It was very clear that in order to get the most from the skills and engineering precision of Createch, communication is vital. The options for unique fixed, removable, telescopic and hybrid precision-made frameworks is vast and every aspect can be modified to specific needs of the patient.

“The ability to adapt the design specifically for the patient, the level of precision and the unique Straumann 10 year Guarantee means that Createch will no doubt add to our clinical practice. This is an extension of the Straumann brand and it is clear that this will offer clinicians and patients a level of service, quality and care that we have come to expect from Straumann.”
